China is the world’s second largest country (Area wise). The country was originally inhabited by early humans between 250,000 and 2.24 million years ago. The beginning of the “Dynasty’s” or ruling emperors according to Chinese tradition was the first dynasty of Xia, which emerged around 2100 BCE. The Dynasty’s continued on until the last, the Qing dynasty, which lasted from 1644 until 1912, was the last imperial dynasty of China.      Although no cartoon character by any means, Fred Moore (Nee: Robert Fred Moore September 7th, 1911) with his unique design style and drawings helped the Disney Company bring to life the special appearance of the many characters we all love today. Fred Moore had little formal art training, but was a natural draftsman, much like Ub Iwerks. He almost single-handedly defined many of the Disney Cartoons. How did a man with almost no training get a job at Disney? The legend story goes that he walked into Walt’s office with some drawings he had made on some cardboard and said “I like to…

You can’t poll a scientific fact. The speed of light is the speed of light (186,282.4 miles per second) whether 90% of people believe it, 25% believe it or 100% have no opinion. The same is true for the heaviest element, the size of the Earth and the number of cells that make up the average human body (37.2 trillion, in case you’re counting). And the same is true, too, for the safety and efficacy of vaccines: They’re extraordinarily effective and extraordinarily safe, no matter what the folks in the anti-vaccine fringe have been saying. But in this case, popular opinion…

  • Tom Sawyer Island Indian War Canoes Ticket Booth Close Up

    7 Jul 2015 | 6:47 am
A close up of the Frontierland ticket booth I posted yesterday. The admission prices for each attraction is clearly marked for both adults and children. Note that the large sign lets all guests know that Tom Sawyer Island closes at dusk, although the placement of the pricing obscures part of the sign. I love the yellow light bulb and the discussion amongst the ticket seller and two of the Indian War Canoe guides.
  • Rafts to Tom Sawyer Island Indian War Canoe Ride

    6 Jul 2015 | 5:52 am
Another favorite large sign for a ticket booth is this one for Rafts to Tom Sawyer Island and The Indian War Canoe Ride. Yes, the Canoes were a ride and not an attraction. Note the Indian War Canoe driver speaking with the ticket taker. This is also another great example of the theming of all structures at Disneyland.
  • Storyland Asbury Park New Jersey

    3 Jul 2015 | 9:03 am
The first thing that comes to mind when most people here Asbury Park, New Jersey is Bruce Springsteen and beach boardwalk. However in the 1960s, it was home to a small Fairy Tale and Western park called Storyland Village. The park closed in the late 1960s as far as I can tell and was redeveloped into a Sear's store. The park sold this small set of souvenir postcards featuring images of the various scenes from the park. I will let the postcard booklet describe each of the scenes found at this cute park. The sets and buildings were designed by cartoonist and illustrator Russell Patterson.

One of the coolest ticket booth signs is the sign for the Rainbow Caverns Mine Train Ticket booth. The booth is a modified Frontierland themed building, but the sign on top is a plethora of color accenting the Rainbow part of the ride. Another nice detail is the lantern shaped light at one end of the booth.
  • Mark Twain Ticket Booth

    1 Jul 2015 | 6:59 am
On the shores of the Rivers of America sat the Frontierland ticket booth for the steamboat Mark Twain. The booth has a great sign in the middle of a life ring with a gorgeous painting of the Mark Twain. I wonder if this was saved? The many different United States flags creates a very colorful and kinetic draw. This ticket booth was removed and the landing area for the dock has been opened up in the front.

For today's reruns, I thought I would choose a theme: the Omnibus! Double decker vehicles are awesome. Why not a triple decker? Bob Gurr, I've got ideas. Here's a lovely shot of the Omnibus up at the Hub (when does it stop becoming the Hub and start becoming the Plaza?).  It appears to be waiting to take guests from Tomorrow and take them back to Yesteryear. In 1974 the Peoplemover was still going strong (with its original colors), it's kind of neat to see them juxtaposed like this. Note the cold-weather clothing on the guests. It's a "Cavalcade of Mediocrity"! Brought to you by Pepsodent tooth powder.I admit it - "mediocre" is too harsh to describe this pretty, pastoral scene. In fact, the more I look at it, the more I am inclined to give it a thumb's up. I think our photographer was at the Indian Village, near the location where the "Golden Bear Lodge" (now known as the "Hungry Bear" restaurant) would eventually go. OK, this one is mediocre. The color is weird, and there isn't much to see. I'm going back to bed.

No pictures yet...I'll upload them soon. I went to the Disneyland Resort yesterday with my mother, aunt, cousin, and nephew. We all woke up from 7 am in the morning and leave at home by 8:30 am. My mom drove us to the parks, since they parked in our driveway. We had a great time. My cousin and nephew came from Taiwan and they stayed in my aunt's house for a week to visit California and Disneyland. Which was yesterday. My aunt treated me and my mom for the trip. So the tickets and the food were on the house from her! Which was nice and big thank you to her! We bought the ticket online first…

Surprising for me, most of the time coincidentally end up when the Peter Pan segment comes up. Sometimes during the segment or before it even begins such as Jiminy Cricket in Bubbles with Monstro water mist scene before the the cannon fire. It is always so exciting the see it happen! After a fun Indy adventure, Pirates, and/or HM experience. I got off right of the action of Peter Pan scene or the beginning where the cannon fires! At rare times, I…

So it’s not new news to everyone that Stars and Cars finished over the weekend. A shadow of its former glory as a decent mini parade for WDS it had more recently turned into a scrum around a rope to try and get photos with a character as long as you were near them. I loved the original incarnation of Stars and Cars at the WDS. The cars were cute and it was great seeing some of the more unusual characters riding the cars. It was a perfect parade to get some lovely shots of characters.    Once it changed it’s format to the wait behind a rope and hope to get a photo with a…

    2 Jul 2015 | 11:18 am
The Disney park currently known as Disney’s Hollywood Studios has been the much maligned “not-a-full-day-park” for years and years now. It usually comes in 3rd or 4th place, depending on whether the person choosing enjoys Disney’s Animal Kingdom or not. I have personally defended Disney’s Hollywood Studios in the past, based on the memories and the hope it once held, and the potential future I thought it could enjoy. However, as of late, much like the former EPCOT Center, DHS has been slowly cannibalizing itself in the name of “progress” and throwing…

Dick Van Dyke and the Vantastix at D23’s Destination D I saw this on Facebook, and knew I wanted to share this happy video (and great song) here with everyone. As a life-long Disney fan, I think we’d all like to think this is just how Dick Van Dyke is on a daily basis (maybe without the live band, but you get the idea). Some people are just born happy and what makes them happiest, is spreading joy to others. 5 Jul 2015 | 5:38 pm
“Let’s take the new car, Daddy.” That’s what I heard from my son each time that we needed to go somewhere. I was test driving a 2015 Toyota Sienna and my son was convinced that it was the greatest vehicle ever designed. We explored a lot of Seattle in the Sienna. My wife was out of town visiting her mom, so it was just us boys (dog included) at home for the week. I rarely have a chance to spend time alone with my son, which made this a special weekend to do some fun things together. My son had a new found sense of independence with the Sienna. I would use the remote to open one of the…

The big secret that no one tells you is that the messes don’t end just because your child is out of diapers. Advanced potty training is a necessity. I came to the conclusion that advanced potty training was a thing after I had to explain to my son (for the millionth time) the importance of wiping after using the bathroom. The parenting books make you believe that once your child knows how to sit and flush they will never need…

For a place that is rooted in nostalgia, they seem to always have something new to try. For this milestone year, the Disneyland Resort has a new evening parade, fireworks show, and a new water show that all look pretty amazing.
