Wow! I anticipated that some of the merchandise for the Epcot Food and Wine Festival would be better-than-average, considering that 2015 marks the 20th Anniversary of the Festival. But I can’t say I was expecting all of this! Disney has provided a sneak peek at some of the items on tap for the celebration… and you may want to settle in, my friends, because there is LOTS of it.      Walt Disney is famous for his quotes, and perhaps the most poignant one was… “You can design and create, and build the most wonderful place in the world. But it takes people to make the dream a reality” And in Walt’s long and storied career, this certainly rings true. From Walt’s humblest beginnings to the zenith of his triumphs, he always had the most talented and devoted people on his staff to make his dreams come true. From Ub Iwerks and Carl Stalling in the beginning, there are countless people over the years who contributed to making his ideas and dreams come to…

John’s parents died when he was a baby, his mother of natural causes and his father by the leader of a group of apes, named Kerchak who is their King. The beginning of the “Dynasty’s” or ruling emperors according to Chinese tradition was the first dynasty of Xia, which emerged around 2100 BCE. The Dynasty’s continued on until the last, the Qing dynasty, which lasted from 1644 until 1912, was the last imperial dynasty of China. Kids? Happiness? Mickey Mouse? Last week, I spent time vacationing at “The Happiest Place on Earth,” and one key phrase kept popping into my head every time I looked around: Business perfection. In a way it felt strange to spend so long in Spain and then cram three countries into 11 days, but I enjoyed the constant change of culture and felt like we did a good job of seeing the best bits.  First off after Barcelona was an eight hour high-speed train across the border into France, through the Southern French countryside and up to Paris, where we arrived at midnight.  I was baffled by the fact that the countries seemed to effortlessly merge into each other with no obvious signage or border, and since Catalan looks so similar to French (to me at least) I was annoyed that I couldn’t…

By Dave Adams: It’s probably obvious because I’m writing this but I am a big theme park fanboy! Living in isolated New Zealand however has meant that it has been far too long since I last visited a Disney Park (13 years!) So traveling through Europe with my wife this year we relished at the opportunity to visit Disneyland Paris and its companion park, Walt Disney Studios. Below I have compiled my top three highlights and lowlights for each park from our recent trip to the Disneyland Paris Resort, from the perspective of a fanboy with fresh eyes. 28 Jul 2015 | 11:25 am
By Robert Niles: With ticket prices rising up to and even over the $100 a day mark for the nation's most popular theme parks, middle class families might be wondering if they can how much longer they will be able to afford to visit theme parks. At first glance, the choice seems stark: Find some sort of package that makes a visit to one of the Disney or Universal resorts an affordable deal, or settle for a shorter trip to a regional amusement park. While going for a less popular park isn't a bad deal for roller coaster fans — heck, most coaster fans would prefer a visit to a great iron park…

My room was gorgeous; spotless and perfectly appointed. The perfect place to write a postcard home. The furniture chosen was the perfect choice for this hotel.A spacious bathroom, which is where I answered the call when the front desk called my room to make sure everything was ok. How's that for service? Can't complain about the Salvatore Ferragamo products. Wow! I was living in luxury. How about that rooftop pool? This area had some great views. The Roosevelt also boasts a number of clubs and restaurants.

On my visit to New Orleans last Spring, I had the pleasure of staying at The Roosevelt Hotel. This Waldorf Astoria property began life in 1893 as The Grunewald, as seen in this vintage postcard. The next two images show The Cave that is featured in the inset.Apparently this subterranean supper club came complete with waterfalls, stalagmites, stalactites, glass topped tables and statues of gnomes and nymphs. Revues similar to the Ziegfeld Follies were presented on a nightly basis with chorus girls dancing to a Dixieland Jazz band. Unfortunately it closed in 1930. Sounds like a hoot to me.The…

    28 Jul 2015 | 4:00 am
I love this photo of Walt with his beloved wife, Lillian. But…it seems as if it was not actually shot at the Park. Something about the way it is lit and staged, it seems as if Walt & Lillian were actually shot elsewhere and then spliced in. I could be wrong. It happens every now and then. Either way, it's a beauty of the couple sitting in a Horseless Carriage with the Castle in the background.More vintage Disneyland photos at my main website.Follow my Daveland updates on Twitter and view my most recent photos on Flickr.

One of the highlights of the 60th Anniversary at Disneyland have been the revitalized windows of the Main Street Emporium. The two scenes that have been installed so far are for Peter Pan and Cinderella. The Peter Pan scenes give a nice teaser to the attraction in Fantasyland. The star thingy in the background still baffles me; it just doesn't seem to fit. I will need to get out the original animated film to see how it matches.Plenty of detail to keep the eye busy as you marvel over the miniature scenes and figures.Nana the dog is not receiving much benefit from Tinker Bell's pixie dust since…

  • Souvenir Friday- Dixieland at Disneyland1966 Poster and Carnation Menu

    31 Jul 2015 | 6:45 am
Two items for souvenir Friday today. First up is another great purchase from the Disney show. This poster was placed at local stores where guests could purchase advance tickets for the 1966 Dixieland at Disneyland show. The show featured Louis Armstrong and a plethora of Dixieland bands, including my favorite the Firehouse Five Plus 2. This was most likely printed in the Disneyland print shop like the various posters for Nite at Disneyland parties and Magic Kingdom Club advertising. Next up is a post to add to a post on Major Pepperidge's blog of May 29, 2015 on a Kids Carnation Menu. This is…
  • Miniature Horse Corral 1957

    30 Jul 2015 | 6:36 am
Another dark photograph for the Miniature Horse Corral. The corral was located next door to the Frontier Trading Post and featured a display of miniature horses. The sign has the same hand painted look as the Frontier Trading Post sign. The corral features a neat rustic look with the knobby wood used for the supports. This looks like it was moved directly from Knott's Berry Farm.
  • Frontier Trading Post

    29 Jul 2015 | 6:14 am

  • Signs Along the Walkway

    27 Jul 2015 | 6:46 am
In the early years of Disneyland, the walkway between Frontierland and Adventureland featured minimal theming and landscaping. The walkway led to a small bridge over a stream that connected the Jungle River Cruise with the Rivers of America. In order to advertise the new attractions, Disneyland used small signs as well as a large cloth banner promoting the new Tom Sawyer Island, Keel Boats, and the War Canoe. In the background is the Chicken Plantation restaurant.

Hey mom, let the kid drive, for crying out loud! That vast empty field behind them is a strange sight to behold; I can't quite get my bearings to figure out what might be there today. The Carrousel in Fantasyland (pre all-white horses) looks great from any angle - even this weird one.

A long time ago, I thought I would try to scan a whole bunch of vintage Disneyland Viewmaster reels, or at least the most interesting frames from those reels. I made it through most (but not all) of my Main Street packets before I started to go crazy! So... that project is on the back burner until further notice. But I still have some scans that might be fun for you to look at; that way you don't have to spend the time (years) and money (lots!) that I spent acquiring my collection. First, here's a nice overview of some of the different kinds of packet covers. At the top are the…
  • Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln - Gate Handout, 1965

    29 Jul 2015 | 12:01 am
It's time for another fun piece of Disneyland paper ephemera! In this case it is a flyer, given to each guest as they passed through the gates of the park (along with their complimentary INA guidebook). This is from 1965, when "Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln" was still playing to amazed crowds at the New York World's Fair; Walt seemed to be in a particular hurry to show off his Audio-Animatronic triumph at Disneyland... Mr. Lincoln debuted on July 18th of 1965 - the tenth anniversary of the day that the general public was admitted to the park. I have always wondered where this show would have…
  • Nice Walt Disney World, November 1974

    28 Jul 2015 | 12:01 am
Here are more pictures from The Magic Kingdom in Florida....This first one is similar to another that we saw not long ago; it was taken in the morning, obviously before guests were allowed in, which gives us a great Edward Hopper-esque view of a deserted amusement park. I see a single cast member in the middle of the street, way down toward the castle! Our photographer hot-footed it over to Adventureland to see the still-new "Pirates of the Caribbean" attraction, which had opened only about a year earlier. It's so weird to see no people around! This image is a little bit to the right of the…
  • Circarama Theater & Telstar

    27 Jul 2015 | 12:01 am
There's only one picture today; but it's a pretty nice one. From the legendary stash of Instamatics comes this nice shot of the Clock of the World, with the wonderful "Circarama Theater" (home of "America the Beautiful") in the background. The "Bell System" logo makes me happy, for no logical reason. It's hard to ignore that strange thing protruding from the top of the building; it is a model of "Telstar",  an early communications satellite that Bell Labs helped to build. Actually, it resembles both "Telstar 1" and "Telstar 2", launched in 1962 and 1963 respectively. They are still in…

  • Question Why isn't Diane Disney Miller selected as a Disney Legend?

    31 Jul 2015 | 12:53 pm
I'm surprised she wasn't selected (her mother was), but I'm also surprised that there isn't a bigger outcry over this. Am I missing the criteria of what makes a Disney Legend? BTW, the Walt Disney Family Museum is so cool, I wish I could go more often.

I went to Disneyland Paris. I went to Disneyland Paris. It’s true, I went to Disneyland Paris. I had to say it several times to make sure I wasn’t dreaming. Visiting Disneyland was interesting in itself because of the language barrier immediately going into the park. This park was much different than I experienced. I am a Floridian and spent quite a bit of time at Disney as a child. Those memories are fading but are still some of the best. Disneyland Paris and Disneyworld are very different. Obviously the scale of both parks are night and day. Disney Paris could fit into…

    31 Jul 2015 | 3:02 am
I guess Disney has always just been there.  Even during the times when my interest has waned a little Disney remained there as a comfort blanket ready to return to whenever I needed it.  Like a loyal friend or my mothers home cooking! I don’t remember my first Disney interaction.  Let’s be honest who does?  It probably came before I developed my memory! However I do remember watching traditional Disney cartoons such as Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and my personal favourite, Goofy!  Then of course there were the classic animated feature films.  I was fortunate enough to grow up…

JB’s Art Appreciation class takes Disneyland Paris As the last field trip for Art Appreciation, Disneyland Paris was the way to end it with a bang. While we were there to have fun and enjoy ourselves, we still had to keep the class in the back of our minds. The main purpose of this field trip was to compare and contrast the European Disney park to the Disney parks we are familiar with back home (in California and Florida). And I actually made comparisons to both Walt Disney World as well as Hong Kong Disneyland because I visited both of those parks in the past two years. Before…

The Disneyland Resort has gone all out for Disneyland’s Diamond Celebration.  Special decor, special merchandise, and most importantly, special food! On a recent visit to Plaza Inn, I noticed an intriguing dessert that I had to try, Diamond Celebration Chocolate Cake.  Honestly, I bought this out of curiosity because it sounded like a bizarre mix of flavors to me. But I can’t say I was expecting all of this! Disney has provided a sneak peek at some of the items on tap for the celebration… and you may want to settle in, my friends, because there is LOTS of it. I don’t even know where to start, so I guess I’ll just point out a few favorites. For instance, “Voila! You’ve got a (Chef) Figment” on the Chef Figment Mug and 20th Anniversary Ornament below! And…

  • The Disneyland Difference

    Suzannah Mitchell
    17 Jul 2015 | 12:35 pm
I’ve wanted to write a post with this title since my first visit to Disneyland in 2011. I will probably still write about the different types of Disneyland differences in future posts, but today, it’s all about the intangible. The date of my first visit is actually embarrassing to admit – a lifelong Disney fan such as myself only visiting the original park that started it all, just 4 short years ago. And yet, I feel such love and devotion to this place, it’s almost as if I’ve now edited it into my childhood memories and have meshed its history with my own.
  • The Hollywood That Never Was And Never Will Be

    Suzannah Mitchell
    2 Jul 2015 | 11:18 am
The Disney park currently known as Disney’s Hollywood Studios has been the much maligned “not-a-full-day-park” for years and years now. It usually comes in 3rd or 4th place, depending on whether the person choosing enjoys Disney’s Animal Kingdom or not. I have personally defended Disney’s Hollywood Studios in the past, based on the memories and the hope it once held, and the potential future I thought it could enjoy. However, as of late, much like the former EPCOT Center, DHS has been slowly cannibalizing itself in the name of “progress” and throwing…

The official synopsis of the Good Dinosaur from DisneyPixar is this: “The Good Dinosaur” asks the question: What if the asteroid that forever changed life on Earth missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct? Pixar Animation Studios takes you on an epic journey into the world of…
  • Dancing Dick Van Dyke Proves Age is Just a Number

Dick Van Dyke and the Vantastix at D23’s Destination D I saw this on Facebook, and knew I wanted to share this happy video (and great song) here with everyone. As a life-long Disney fan, I think we’d all like to think this is just how Dick Van Dyke is on a daily basis (maybe without the live band, but you get the idea). Some people are just born happy and what makes them happiest, is spreading joy to others. I was lucky enough to see Dick Van Dyke perform at D23’s Destination D a few years back (he was at the 2011 D23 Expo also but I wasn’t able to get in to see him!)…

  • Armchair Imagineering a Villains Theme Park

    Chris Fox
    31 Jul 2015 | 6:00 am
Rumors have been going around for years that Disney is developing a villains themed park. That rumor may never come true, but, with Descendants coming to the Disney Channel, I thought it would be fun to play Armchair Imagineer. What would I like to see in a villains theme park? First off, resurrect Snow White’s Scary Adventure. I’m talking about the first version, where you are thrust into the role of Snow White and the Evil Queen is after you. My immediate next thought goes to thrill rides, because that’s what I love the most.  How about a roller coaster based on…
  • Which Disney Villain Would Win? CAST YOUR VOTES!

    30 Jul 2015 | 7:00 am
Despite the despicable efforts of every Disney villain to claim out-and-out victory in a battle of good vs. evil, not one of them succeeds in his or her respective tale. Although each one employs unique forms of coldhearted trickery, he or she is thwarted while in pursuit of the prize and the win. Though the villain does his or her dead level best to do his or her wicked worst, the fiendish baddie never manages to prevail over the heroes and heroines we all cheer for and love. Since those on the side of good always vanquish the evildoers in the Disney films, it might be interesting to see how…

Knowing very little about nails I do however know what looks good. Browsing on Etsy designer ThirstyWillow has a ton of really cool looking Disney Nail Decals. I have no clue on pricing but most of her designs run $2.99 so I assume that is a value for Disney Nail Decals. Here are some of their fun designs: Minnie Tinker Bell Mickey, Minnie and More Mickey Silhouettes  Pink Minnie Disney Princesses Disney Cruise Line Disney Villains  and many more. There is over 3 pages of Disney and Non Disney Designs to choose from. My youngest loves the Peppa Pig ones but her nails are to little…

Chris Harrison asks if we’re excited and ready to go – you better believe I’m ready to go. Now the guys are going to meet Kaitlyn’s family. And Kaitlyn’s mom doesn’t like Nick. Uh oh Nick. I’m amazed Kaitlyn’s dad doesn’t punch him. Turns out, it’s Kaitlyn’s mom who grills Nick first. She calls him arrogant from his conduct on the past season. I wanted to cheer – maybe he’ll bail out and it shortens this episode. But then he…

Walt Disney is famous for his quotes, and perhaps the most poignant one was… “You can design and create, and build the most wonderful place in the world.

By Fred Hazelton How Did The Crowd Calendar Do? Predicting crowd levels at Disney World is tough, even for seasoned veterans like us, so our goal for the Disney World Crowd Calendar is to get within one index level 90% of the time. Based on that, last week was a win each day overall. We saw the overall crowd level reach ‘8’ or ‘9’ every day last week except for Sunday when it hit a level ‘7’ (as predicted). This is all despite Epcot crowd levels being down a little last week with six out of seven days hitting a crowd level lower than what the Disney World…

Mouse Chat Disney Radio – The BOATHOUSE at Disney World Reviewed Disney Springs Boathouse Review. Chris drove down to Walt Disney World to try the new boat house restaurant at Disney Springs.  The photos of this restaurant look amazing.  I am sure you have seen the aqua cars that start out on the shore and then cruise in the lake area.  Those cars also look like loads of fun.  We priced out the aqua cars and they are $100 for a 20 minute ride.  That price was out of our budget so we don’t have a review for the cars for you.  Instead Chris headed into The Boat House for…

  • Seattle Seahawks Quarterback Russell Wilson Pulls a Boeing 737-800 in Record Time

    Dan
    28 Jul 2015 | 4:52 pm
I thought Alaska Airlines was joking when they said Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson would pull a Boeing 737-800 a distance of 25 feet. Loaded with fuel, the aircraft weighs about 135,000 pounds. But the feat of strength was for a good cause – a national initiative dedicated to ending childhood cancer. Alaska Airlines invited me to join them at Boeing Field to witness this unique event. The weather was perfect and the stands were filled with spectators who were cheering on “Team Russell,” led by Russell Wilson, and “Team Joel,” led by actor/comedian Joel…

My wife was out of town visiting her mom, so it was just us boys (dog included) at home for the week. I rarely have a chance to spend time alone with my son, which made this a special weekend to do some fun things together. My son had a new found sense of independence with the Sienna. Let’s be real here, the School Bread from Kringla Bakeri og Kafe is overrated. Yeah, I know all the other food blogs overhype this treat, but come on, is it really that good? Is it really that incredible? I don’t think so. Actually I truly dislike it. Scratch that, I hate it. (Yeah I said it, fight me!) Sure it looks delicious.
