Under the direction of Diane Disney Miller, her husband Ron, and executive director Richard Benefield, the genesis of this idea became Christmas with Walt Disney, an enchanting fifty-one minute film filled with the joy and merriment of the holidays as well as some unique looks into the Disney family’s holiday traditions. Mr. Hahn, whose credits include The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast, was tapped to produce this film that will… -
Tim Burton Retrospective in NYC
19 Nov 2009 | 9:17 pmThe accurately named CoolHunting blog has an interview with Ron Magliozzi, curator of the Tim Burton Retrospective at NYC’s MoMA. Faced with the responsibility of being the first Museum to present so much previously unseen work from an artist as popular as Tim Burton, who luckily has saved much of what he’s done creatively since adolescence, we felt our first job was to provide some chronological and narrative structure to its exhibition. We’ve attempted to accomplish this by organizing material under “Surviving Burbank” covering the years of Tim’s upbringing in… -
Space Mountain landing in Magic Kingdom this Sunday
19 Nov 2009 | 5:34 pmThis Sunday marks the official reopening of Space Mountain at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. Technically, it’s currently in soft open; which means it might experience some down time. (Heck, it might even experience downtime after Sunday). While not exactly the major overhaul that many thought Space Mountain deserved, this rehab has brought some fairly significant changes to the attraction. Okay, it’s mostly a fresh coat of paint, some new projections, and some queue enhancements. But hey, it’s open again. To celebrate I’m calling mini-meet, or Tweetup if…

When I woke up I ate these things called Bogels from Panera Bread. By the way, Panera Bread is delicious ; I went yesterday and got a sandwich, broccoli cheese soup and an apple, delicious! When I was there I bought Bogels, these mini but up bagels with cinnamon on them. I melted butter and dipped them in that and ate them. I thought they were going to be delicious, but at best they were mediocre. So i scarfed a cranberry bliss bar. -

Vote of the week: Holiday traditions and cranberry sauce
20 Nov 2009 | 9:30 amBy Robert Niles: Next week brings the Thanksgiving holiday to the United States. More than any other time of year, it seems, the holiday period between Thanksgiving and New Year's causes people to fall back into family and personal traditions. One tradition now seems to be jumping the gun. Most theme parks that remain open for the holiday season already have put up their Christmas trees and holiday lights. But no one seems to mind. Crowds pack the parks during the holiday season, encouraging some regional parks to reopen for these weeks, such as Busch Gardens Williamsburg, which will run its… -

19 Nov 2009 | 3:53 pmBy Robert Niles: LAS VEGAS - Walt Disney didn't create or build the theme park industry, contrary to what some folks have claimed over the years. What he did, veteran attraction designer Bob Rogers said, was to create and manage the team that built the theme park industry. With that, Rogers introduced a panel of five Disney legends who were part of that team: Sculptor Blaine Gibson, Engineer Bob Gurr, Consultant Harrison "Buzz" Price, Composer Richard Sherman and Imagineer Marty Sklar. From left, Marty Sklar, Blaine Gibson, Bob Gurr, Richard Sherman, Buzz Price and Bob RogersCombined, these… -

The end of Rock 'N' Roller Coaster with Aerosmith?

I could never pin down if this was an actual thought process going on at Disney or just some internet rumor started by a fan boy who wanted to get raise the ire of Aerosmith fans or the heartbeats of teenage girls everywhere. Now that Steven Tyler has retired from Aerosmith, the question becomes a lot more important. Ding Dong The Wicked Witch is Dead
16 Oct 2009 | 9:38 pmCoffee loving Disney fans, your days of sorrow are nearly over. Disney's relationship with Nestle is drawing to a close. Hopefully that means we'll soon be able to get some real coffee brewing instead of that Nestle stuff they reconstitute inside the black box. Word is coming down that Disneyland Resort will get a contract with Starbucks to provide coffee. Disney World's situation is a little more complicated as they have a contract with a coffee provider who might step in. My personal hope is for Starbucks or someone similar to move in. We didn't ask for Nestle to go. Just for a decent cup… -
Roy E. Disney's Health Declining?
8 Oct 2009 | 7:33 amRoy E. Disney, aka that damn nephew, has been the standard bearer of the Disney flame since the Walt Disney Company was targeted for takeover and Roy worked out a deal with the Bass family to bring in Michael Eisner and Frank Wells to save the company. He later fought Eisner for the soul of the company, eventually ousting Eisner and ushering in this current golden age for the Mouse House. Sadly, I'm hearing rumors about Roy E's health being on the decline. Don't know more than that, and certainly, I hope it's not true. But there is the fact that he no longer races his yachts and, as far as I… -

Here is the first portrait you encounter as you step off the elevator, known fondly as The Catwoman (not to be confused with Julie Newmar).See more Haunted Mansion (regular AND NBC) photos at my website. -
Tell-No-Tales Thursdays: Jack Sparrow’s Treasure
19 Nov 2009 | 3:21 amBefore Jack Sparrow came along, this is what visitors used to see at the end of the ride as their boat went up the hill above the pirate grotto. This poor fellow was eternally straining to get his loot up the hill, but to no avail. Now, may he rest in peace as he is lost to the ages. This AA figure was "rescued" by Tony Baxter from the World of Motion at EPCOT center before it became Test Track. The last scene you view as you leave the underground Pirates cavern is this treasure room with Jack Sparrow. The AA is pretty impressive (more so in person than in this static shot), however, I don’t… -
Wednesday WOW: Walt in Frontierland, 1958
18 Nov 2009 | 3:21 amIt’s difficult to find unpublished photos of Walt Disney, so for me, it’s definitely a “wow” when I do. This set of small black and white prints I am guestimating to be from 1958 and feature Walt touring Frontierland. In shot #1, he’s checking out the list of attractions on the signage. This one is harder to make out due to its graininess, but it appears that Walt is hopping the fence at the Jungle Cruise. No need for a fast pass for Walt!Any ideas of what Walt & crew are watching here? Whatever it is, I am guessing there will be some changes coming soon from the look on his… -
Classic Polyester: April 1977 Pt. 2
17 Nov 2009 | 4:09 amMy Synthetic Seventies Series (how 'bout that alliteration!) is based in New Orleans Square today with a little Frontierland overlap. The family appears to be enjoying a little lunch at the restaurant that is now Café Orleans.Even if Disney has hidden the movie “Song of the South” for years, they've never had a problem with the characters wandering through the park, posing with guests! The background is undeniably New Orleans Square. Even if these slides were undated, the mother’s sunglasses and plaid coat would place them squarely in the 1970’s.After lunch, the family took a journey…

Hippo Boats, Jeeps and More at Lion Country Safari 1971
21 Nov 2009 | 6:19 amI love looking at Irvine when it was rather bare and undeveloped. One of the best ways is to find images from Lion Country Safari. These shots are dated 1971 and feature more than just animals seen from a car. First up is a fun paddle boat in the shape of a river horse, the Hippopotamus. Another attraction for the kids was driving a safari jeep. There is a similar ride at Legoland in Carlsbad. Of course there is a scenic pond, and with a pond comes ducks and a place to pose for a family photograph. A closer look shows the Afritheater in the background and the girl is eating one of the all… -
Souvenir Friday-Dixieland at Disneyland 1964 Plus More
20 Nov 2009 | 5:55 amLet me start off by posting a scan of the poster from the Second Annual Dixieland at Disneyland event. This is a scan of the poster that was once hanging in the barn at Ward Kimball's (thanks Chris!) Next up is the program from the Fifth Annual Dixieland at Disneyland event. Check out the groups performing as well as the production crew. I would love to have seen the scenic design by Roland Crump. (And I am looking for programs from the 1st Annual as well as the Third and Fourth....) A nice addition to this is the ticket signed by Kid Ory. Kid Ory was one of the best and earliest trombone… -
Spring Fling 1972- More Photo's
19 Nov 2009 | 5:02 amFirst off thanks to Disneyland Nomenclature for pulling information from a Disneyland Line so I can correct that the Spring Fling was a separately ticketed event. The advertising with the Pinto was in place to entice visitor's to purchase Spring Fling tickets. Now on to the photographs with more of the family posing. First off is my favorite thinking and quiet spot in Disneyland, the Snow White Wishing Well Grotto. You just have to love the fashion in 1972, check out those sunglasses. I also like this image, not for the view but for the crowd in the background and for the girl's pants. -
Spring Fling 1972
18 Nov 2009 | 6:31 amIn 1972 Disneyland had a special event to increase attendance during the slow spring months. The event was called the Spring Fling. This lucky family attended the event and posed with many of the characters. It appears Disneyland was not that crowded as there are few people in the background. First off is an image of the two young girls posing with every one's favorite corporate symbol, Mickey Mouse. They also posed with Mickey's better half Minnie. I don't like the yellow dress she has picked out to wear. A character I always enjoy seeing is Snow White. I wonder where her friends the Seven… -
October 1956 Lonely Indian and Snow White
17 Nov 2009 | 5:22 amPushing the way back machine 11 years to arrive in October 1956. First up is a very lonely Indian. Maybe he thought he could lay out on the sand and have a beach party? The next place to visit is Snow White's Scary Adventure. The ride vehicles are just two seaters. I have left the image rather large so you can see some of the details of the mural painted on the wall.

Utopia Now
8 Nov 2009 | 5:22 pmTomorrowland has, from its inception, borrowed heavily from the popular imagination of the future. Through the late 1950s and into the ‘60s, culminating in the complete overhaul of Tomorrowland in 1967, WED had a great big beautiful tomorrow that was ensconced in the public’s mind to draw from. It was a future that people already understood and believed in, a future they could connect with. All WED had to do was build that tomorrow, today. When Disneyland opened in 1955, the Interstate Highway System had not yet been built. Autopia modeled what would one day become our freeways and allowed… -
Rainy Days and Mondays
17 Oct 2009 | 11:38 pmTwo of WDI's senior Imagineers just were given their walking papers, leaving a tsunami of questions in their wake.Tim Delaney had been with Imagineering since 1976. As Executive Designer, Vice President, his high points were easily Discoveryland at Disneyland Paris, the centerpeice of which is the incredible re-imagining of Space Mountain, and The Living Seas at Epcot. On the low end Tim brought us California Adventure's inaugural entryway and Paradise Pier. Just two days before California Adventure opened, Tim defended the park with a ferocious tenacity not seen since the Queen Mother Alien… -
Why We Whine
6 Oct 2009 | 7:21 am“Get it?” “Got it.” “Good.”You’ll hear the phrase thrown around a lot on Disney boards and blogs, mostly in the context of critics of Disney Theme Parks and those who they feel share their way of thinking. “That guy get’s it!”So what is this “it” that they get? What set’s them apart from the rest of the critical, mean spirited blogosphere out to get Disney?Would You Like Some Cheese With That Whine?First off, let’s just drop the notion that every Disney critic is just complaining because it’s fun or because they have an axe to grind or because they're just… -
A Great Big Ugly Tomorrow
8 Sep 2009 | 3:09 pm"I'm not sure I'm ready to celebrate the re-birth of the golden age of Imagineering just yet.Things have just been too dismal with WDI's recent efforts for me to just jump on the bandwagon and start pushing again.I just returned from a week in Disney World and I can tell you that Tomorrowland without Space Mountain and the Tomorrowland Transit Authority is a wasteland. We stopped by for a couple spins on Buzz Lightyear and took in a nostalgia-driven showing of the Carousel of Progress, but outside of that we passed right on by. Stitch and Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor are nearly…

Hand Drawn Pixar Sequel...
21 Nov 2009 | 5:14 pmYes, you heard that right...There will be a sequel of sorts to Pixar's animated treasure "Up" that will be hand drawn. Sort of...It's called "George and AJ." And it actually is only about four minutes and five seconds long. And I believe if you buy the DVD you will find it over at iTunes as a commemorative of the release of the film. Or you can just click HERE and watch it through the magic of YouTube.Relax, it's Pixar. Enjoy...Hat Tip to /Film. -
Lamp North...
20 Nov 2009 | 7:57 amA little news about our favorite company in Emeryville's little expansion campus...We've known for some time now that Pixar was building an animation studio in Canada. This one was to handle the various bits of animation that aren't handled in house, like the animated theme park segments (think: Toy Story Midway Mania), various shorts, product tie-ins and other commercial endeavors heretofore known as "Legacy Franchises." Lasseter was very concerned about the animation that was being done for TSMM since it wasn't being handled by Pixar (rather, WDI delegated it to an outside firm). This was… -
Game On/Over...
19 Nov 2009 | 12:12 amPush the "X" button, now the "Y" button...With Walt Disney Pictures "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" slowly approaching it's release, I thought I'd examine what other gaming titles would make a great movie for Disney...Think of this as a video game version of my "Without Tights" post. Instead of talking about comics that would be good for the Mouse to adapt, we'd focus on video games. This isn't new, in fact studios have been adapting games for the better part of the last decade. Badly in almost every instance. So far there hasn't been any one adaption that has transcended the boundaries… -
Echos In The Hundred Acre Woods...
18 Nov 2009 | 2:02 pmProduction Weekly has let it be known who will be playing the voices in the new "Winnie the Pooh" film...Veteran actor Jim Cummings will play both the part of Pooh & Tigger, Rabbit will be voiced by Tom Kenny and Owl will have talk show host/Drew Carey alum Craig Ferguson in the part.Hat Tip to /Film. -
20K? No Way...
17 Nov 2009 | 12:23 amNow comes word from Variety that the 20K sequel has been put on hold...Actually, that's not the good news. I have always like the idea of a prequel to the classic and it would/could be a great aquatic action film along the lines of "Raiders" or "The Mummy" but my complaint has always been with the guy steering it. Or actually, his taste and choices. It appears that McG has moved on to other things and the Mouse has halted the planned production of this project indefinitely. Hopefully they'll get this thing going again soon, but with a director more in tune with what this project needs. My…

20 Nov 2009 | 12:01 amThis was supposed to be posted back in June but got lost somehow among my other posts, so pretend its June. From 1985, the New Videopolis offered a Summer Passport for $40! Yes, that's right, you can visit Disneyland "night after night, anytime after 5pm, all summer long*" *June 22 thru September 7. This coupon for $5 off was given out on one of the Grad Nites, I'm guessing the Summer Passport was available to the public also.Isn't that ID card great, love that '80's hair! Does anyone have one of these, if so we'd like to see it. -
Souvenir Thursday & a new Trip Report blog
19 Nov 2009 | 12:01 amToday is Modern souvenir day here on the blog. Before we get started with the souvenir, please take note that I have created a new blog to off-load my trip reports. Having recently tried to show my blog to someone only to have it hang there while loading 40+ photos, I decided to move the trip reports to their own blog. It’s sort of a sub-blog to this one. "Holy Grail of Disneyland Ticket Books"
17 Nov 2009 | 12:01 amEvery once in a while something extra special shows up on eBay. Since I’m not independently wealthy, the only way some of these specialties will show up on this blog is if I show the EBay listing.According to the seller, this is the “Holy Grail of Disneyland Tickets”. I pretty much have to agree there. From the listing “On October 11th 1955 Disneyland put out it's first Ticket Book which had 8 tickets in it 3 A Tickets, 2 B Tickets and 3 C Tickets. This book up for auction has 2 A Tickets, 1 B Ticket and 2 C Tickets all in Excellent to Near Mint Condition. Only the Very First Ticket… -

Museum Companion Book
21 Nov 2009 | 8:39 amI finally received the companion book to the Walt Disney Family Museum (The Man, The Magic, The Memories. Hardback, 96 pages). When I first visited the Museum back in September, this book was not in stock; then it was delayed, etc.The book is laid out in the same manner as the museum - it follows the timeline of Walt Disney's life. While there is accompanying text, there's nothing earth-shattering here and the comments are quite brief. What makes this book a gem, is that it's jam-packed with rare photos. Many of the same photos viewed at the museum. This book was most likely sent to press… -
The Hidden Mouse
22 Oct 2009 | 1:55 pmThere's another guide book (The Hidden Mouse, paperback 118 pgs) available about the Hidden Mickeys of the Disneyland Resort. For those of you who do not know about this phenomenon, Disney Imagineers often place a silhouette of Mickey's head within an attraction or elsewhere in the Disney Parks. The majority of the hidden Mickeys take the shape of three circles. A larger circle for the head and two smaller circles for the ears. What makes tracking down hidden Mickeys difficult is that they are often in places or areas that are not easily visible and Disney has no official list of where they… -
Three New Disneyland Books
21 Oct 2009 | 8:21 amGreetings everyone. I just got back from a trip to Disneyland which was all decorated for Halloween. The Halloween Screams fireworks show was the best pyrotechnic display since the 50th celebration, but the Ghost Galaxy overlay on Space Mountain was just so-so. Anyway, I picked up three new books. The first is Disneyland Challenge (seen above). This spiral-bound paperback book comes in at 128 pages. It's part guidebook and part trivia challenge. It's an interesting read but I feel that the Imagineering Field Guide to Disneyland is a better book.Next up is Finding Nemo in the Disney Theme… -
Walt Disney Family Museum Preview
28 Sep 2009 | 10:34 amI had an opportunity on Sunday to visit The Walt Disney Family Museum in San Francisco through the D23 Preview weekend. Here's my first impressions, both good and bad:Signage: Being a Northern California native, I knew how to get to the Presidio without any problems. But, once on the grounds, direction signage for the museum is almost non-existent. Driving directions provided by the Museum web site just link you directly to the Presidio web site which weren't that good. Once you find the museum, the sign out front is pretty small. (I realize this isn't Disneyland and I shouldn't be looking… -
The Disney Song Encyclopedia
4 Sep 2009 | 9:07 amI added another book to my ever-growing collection - The Disney Song Encyclopedia (Harback: 350 pages). I'm a sucker for reference books, so when I saw that this title was available I knew I'd need to pick up a copy.I've just begun to make my way through it's pages, but so far it doesn't disappoint. This book contains every single song used in a Disney production, (shorts, full-length animated, live action, theme park and Broadway shows from 1930 to present day - at least I assume it's every single song. I'm going to have to take the authors word on that one.) Songs, of course, are listed in…

Tomorrowland, Spring 1988
27 Sep 2009 | 7:35 pmHere are a couple from Spring 1988. The first year of Blast to the Past was in full swing. I had just graduated from Mariner High School and celebrated with a trip to Disneyland. I drove down in my recently repainted 1979 Pontiac Grand Lemans 4-Door. I remember it was Maroon Red with Orange upholstery. Good Times!!!!!!Here is a view of Tomorrowland's Themed Center, The PeopleMover. The Tomorrowland Terrace still had Orange Umbrellas (It hadn't gone to the lavender yet). The PeopleMover was just been repainted to the grey with color stripes and, though not pictured, Circle-Vision had gained… -

Fantasyland Pix, September 1959
21 Nov 2009 | 12:01 amWhen Walt Disney was dreaming up ideas for Disneyland, it was a tossup between "Fantasyland" and "Creamed Spinachland". Luckily for us, Fantasyland won. True story! Here's a lovely photo of Sleeping Beauty Castle, looking through some sub-tropical foliage (since the photographer was standing at the entrance to Adventureland). Hmmm, not much more to say about this one...Sunny day, pirate ship (sails unfurled), pea-soup green water... A+!And there's li'l Casey Jr. He thought he could, and by gum, he did it! -
Pack Mules & Conestoga Wagon, 1957
20 Nov 2009 | 12:01 amI have decided to ditch by environmentally unfriendly gas-burning automobile and switch to a more "green" alternative. Yes, you'll see me on the 405 freeway driving my conestoga wagon! The 405 never goes more than about 5 miles an hour anyway, so it will work just fine. This swell photo is what inspired me. Behind the wagon is the load area for the Pack Mules... you can see three little girls in identical white tops and red pants. Now that pesky wagon has moved out of the way, affording us a better look at those groovy mules. The third kid back is stylin' in his cowboy hat! I could easily see… -
Disneyland Entrance, 1957
19 Nov 2009 | 12:01 amA day at Disneyland involves waiting in lines, everybody knows that. I was just thinking that after waiting in line to get your parking pass (in your car of course), and then waiting for the tram, the ticket booths were already your third queue of the day. Not that anybody was complaining; the sense of anticipation was as thick as fluffernutter. Christmas decorations are apparent, and nearly everyone is wearing coats and sweaters, so in spite of the bright sun and blue sky, there is a slight chill in the air. The clock reads 10:30, so the park has probably been open for a half hour, and it… -
Attendant & Guides
18 Nov 2009 | 12:01 amI have two fun employee photos today! Let's start with this first picture from July 17, 1968. July 17, why does that date ring a bell? Anyway, I love this image of a pretty parking lot attendant in her candy-striped outfit, accented with a red carnation, red stockings and her red jockey cap. And how can we ignore the riding crop, to help her point. At least I hope that's what it was for. In the background, it appears that a tram has just dropped off a load of passengers, and they are all headed towards the ticket booths. The curving Monorail beamway is supported by columns covered in… -
Knott's Berry Assortment
17 Nov 2009 | 12:01 amThank goodness Walter Knott didn't want to grow broccoli. Think about it.Anyway, I have three randomish photos of the Berry Farm (Berries! That's it!) from the nineteem fitties.I decided to try one of those dee-licious chicken dinners I've heard about, but I didn't expect to see some genuine San Francisco cable cars during my visit to the Farm. They look great too, not rusty or run-down, but shiny and clean and inviting. I would want to hop on board while they are in motion, like people do on TV and in movies. From June 1958 comes this lovely photo of the "Church of Reflections". From what…

I worked at Busch Gardens for four years and remember people struggling with larger cameras/camcorders. Richard Williams' A Christmas Carol
6 Nov 2009 | 7:12 pmThis youtube posting is not of the very best quality to say the least, but I was reminded of this special yesterday and the impact it made upon me when I first saw it-old Magnavox, living room floor, Hancock Park, the 70s. One viewing cemented Richard Williams for me as someone working among animation's elite, although if I remember correctly he got a lot more press later for his "Return of the Pink Panther" titles. But this TV special was just wild. It still is--even in these few clips, just the layout alone...amazing. And while I'd put the Ghost of Christmas Past in the Alastair Sim version… -
A Disney Dream realized: The Walt Disney Family Museum is about to open
24 Sep 2009 | 2:37 pmInterior of one of the galleries of the Museum. Photographed by and used with the permission of David Lytle.Last year out of the blue I received an email asking about one of the photographs I've featured on my blog. This happens fairly often, but this time the source knocked me for a loop: it was the people who were amassing exhibits for the long-awaited Walt Disney Museum underway up in San Francisco, in the stunningly beautiful Presidio. Would I be amenable to helping? Is Fred Moore my favorite good girl artist? Is the Blackwing a pencil? The circa 1890 barracks at San Francisco's Presidio. -

Moving Daze
30 Jul 2009 | 2:30 pma shockingly accurate picture of my packing approach, from "Moving Day" © Walt Disney CompanyYour Blackwing blogger has been very busy away from the computer of late. Obviously posts have been few, but I have some very fun items coming up to write about, hopefully by the end of week. Unfortunately my life just now has been given over to the horrors of moving house lock, stock and books-thousands upon thousands of books. Due to this sweaty work(no A/C in this c.1907 house I'm packing up, and it's been blistering in Southern California) I've had to forgo too many fun events to count: a… -
Torch Tiger tales
14 Jul 2009 | 8:13 pmCover painting by Paul FelixLast year the story department at Walt Disney Feature Animation put together an amazing book, "Who Is Rocket Johnson?" just in time for the San Diego Comic Con. It sold out in very short order, and remains a bright gem of a compilation. Utterly unique and as representative of the talents at work at Disney as anything could be. One should never miss the chance to see--and own--the personal work of men and women like this-mostly story, a couple of directors and animators in there too-who are at the top of their game. No sooner had he pulled the first copies of Rocket…

Review: Grand Floridian Cafe
19 Nov 2009 | 11:33 pmPinvestigator Cody, of the Global Disney Pinvestigation Blog, is back with another round of comments and photos about a recent meal. This time, Cody and his family celebrated his birthday at the Grand Floridian Cafe, one of the lesser known spots at the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. Thanks for the guest review, Cody! The Grand Floridian Cafe (GFC) is tucked away in the back of the resort on the bottom floor of the Grand Floridian. I personally had not heard of it until I was searching for restaurants for my “day after” my birthday celebration. I was looking for somewhere with steak… -

A Few Morning “Mugs”
18 Nov 2009 | 12:35 amHere’s how I feel this morning. How ’bout you? Thought we’d start this Wednesday morning off with a pun (get it? “mugs?”), as all good English-Majors-Turned-Bloggers should do once in a while . I’ve noticed so many different series of mugs at Disney-related stores recently, and I can’t figure out if Disney’s always released mug “collections,” or if this is new. (Maybe I’ve just not been paying attention…very possible… .) Regardless, I first saw this Mickey mug at the Pop Century gift shop last year and thought it… -
Shula’s Steakhouse Review
16 Nov 2009 | 11:29 pmShula’s Steakhouse at the Disney World Dolphin (A coincidence? I think not.) came highly recommended, and even though I’m a Le Cellier and Yachtsman Steakhouse devotee, I knew I had to try this “dark horse” steakhouse on property. Atmosphere Shula’s is a shrine to all things Don Shula and football. This would be fine with me, except that I’m a huge Buffalo Bills fan and just happened to grow up going to games in the midst of the fierce Dolphins/Bills rivalry — the games where even the nosebleed seats in Ralph Wilson Stadium were sold out and the real…

Cinderella Story Chapter 3 – Happy is What Happens, When All Your Dreams Come True
20 Nov 2009 | 1:33 pmphoto by Joan Marcus Ok, so I’m stepping outside of the Disney box here and using a Wicked reference for my title, but I couldn’t help it. After finding out I made the 2010 Disney Moms Panel, that line from the hit Broadway musical is all that kept popping into my head. It seemed fitting too, because as the song says, “There’s a kind of a sort of a…cost…” which of course is the fact that my amazing husband is still on the hunt for a new job. So my joy and happiness was a little dampened by that hardship we still have to conquer. I have no doubt that… -

In that time, I’ve met some amazing people: fellow cast members, Disney management, co-workers and friends both locally and online. However, in the short time that I’ve been blogging about Disney and my family full-time (less than 5 months) the connections I’ve made and caliber of people I’ve met are nothing short of spectacular. ©Disney/PixarI’ve chatted… -
La Cava del Tequila – A New Way to Experience the SPIRIT of Mexico
7 Nov 2009 | 8:11 amNow that Epcot’s 14th Annual International Food & Wine Festival is coming to an end (November 8, 2009 is the last day), you may fear that your chance to sample international spirits is gone for another year. This is not the case because a new little spot opened up during the festival – La Cava del Tequila inside San Angel Inn at Epcot’s Mexico pavilion. Here you can experience an endless array of tequilas from rare to common as well as beers and specialty margaritas. In addition you can enjoy tapas-style food items as well, to form the perfect pairing to the spirits…

20 Nov 2009 | 9:14 amIt's time for reader email! This comes from Maggie who, like me, has toddler twins and is studying for the February bar exam.Chris:Was reading your blog today. Disney Reports Overall Profits Up, Theme Park Revenues Down.
13 Nov 2009 | 11:35 amDisney announced its fourth quarter earnings yesterday and while profits are up for the company overall, thanks in part to its lucrative ESPN franchise, parks and resorts reported a 17% drop in profits and a 4 percent drop in revenue. This, despite the fact that attendance is up. Incentives like free dining an "Buy 4/Get 3 Free" are working to fill the resorts and bring guests into the parks, but per-room spending is down as people react to the continued uncertainty of the economy.Meanwhile, disgruntled Disney fans everywhere are noticing cutbacks in the parks,… -

A look at the last 10 years of growth at Disney World — and the next 10
21 Nov 2009 | 5:13 pmWalt Disney World may one day add a fifth theme park. But it won’t happen in the next five years. At least, that’s according to projections by planners at the Reedy Creek Improvement District, the semi-autonomous government that oversees Disney World. Reedy Creek is in the midst of updating its 10-year growth plan for state regulators, which includes “projected maximums” in various categories. Reedy Creek’s new projections show no major theme park being added between 2009 and 2013. On the other hand, Reedy Creek’s new maximums do allow for one major new theme park to be added… -

Collection of Ride Breakdowns & Mishaps, from Youtube
11 Nov 2009 | 4:59 pmI don’t know about you, but I love it when rides at Walt Disney World break down. It just gives me this happy feeling inside, like something that isn’t supposed to happen is. Something that temporarily “ruins” the “show” does – just a little bit, just enough for me to enjoy that. It also gives you more time to enjoy the scene you are in on the ride. This post is simply a collection of Walt Disney World ride breakdown videos that I have seen on Youtube. They are embedded in this post so you don’t have to keep clicking links back and forth. The Great Debate: TTA Changes Good or Bad?
30 Oct 2009 | 4:57 pmHey there, it’s been a while! I was waiting to post this post until I had been to Walt Disney World myself to see the updated TTA/People Mover. I went last weekend, so now I think it’s time for me to share my opinion. If you don’t know what happened yet, here it is: Disney closed the Tomorrowland Transit Authority when Space Mountain closed for major refurbishments. People were expecting new lighting and refurbished cars – but something that was completely unexpected to me was a new dialogue. That’s right, the familiar deep, monotone voice, along with the well… -
WDW’s Purple and Pink Monorails Combine and Become Teal
17 Oct 2009 | 12:10 pmWalt Disney World has announced to build a new monorail train from the undamaged remains of the two trains that collided in a fatal accident this summer. The new monorail, expected to be put in service later this fall, will be given a teal stripe to differentiate it from the other trains. Even with the addition of this new monorail train, the Resort will be one short of its previous twelve trains before the accident. Disney announced their expectation to add another train to the line next year, giving the monorail system their normal number of twelve trains once again. The two colors that… -
Cast Members: Does it Spoil the Magic for Them?

One of the topics started a while back was “Where would you most like to work in WDW?”. A few posts later, someone mentioned that actually working at WDW might “ruin the magic”. A few posts after that, TiggerROCKS came up with a reply that I completely agree with. Read his post below: “First, a lot of you guys are scared to work in the parks because you don’t want to ‘ruin the magic.’ I say PHOOEY!! …
