I covered three very important topics… requirements, when and how long, and tickets. In this second part I am going to go over transportation, accommodations, and the ever important itinerary. Accommodations I am pretty sure that almost anyone that looks at a list of possible accommodations in the Orlando area will be totally overwhelmed. There are so many options! Off property, on property, vacation homes,…

Club 33 is a private club in New Orleans Square in Disneyland that is NOT open to the public. I can’t get anyone reservations as much as I would love to. Walt Disney once said, “Disneyland will never be finished.” This continues to hold true today. During my recent first trip to the one and only Club 33, I heard rumors from members floating through the air that a possible expansion of the Club would be taking place over the next six months and would open by the beginning of 2014. Club 33 Expansion Details Included in this rumored expansion is the addition of a new area of…

Stars Wars Weekends has officially begun.  Hollywood Studios is being flooded with fans, Snig and Oopla are up to their usual hijinks and Mickey and Minnie are dressed as beloved Star Wars characters.  Unfortunately for me and probably millions of others, I am not able to join in the festivities.  So instead, I am spreading the Star Wars magic here at home by trying to incorporate as many Star Wars quotes as I can into my conversations.  I started writing my ideas and wa-lah!  My blog was born.  So here are some quotes I am using and you can too!

I love staying at a Disney Resort hotel. I’ve stayed at nearly all of them in Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts. The first Disney hotel my family stayed at was Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa in summer 1992. There is something magical about staying at a Disney Resort (I love that blast of cool air when entering a hotel lobby). My favorite place is Disney’s Polynesian Resort as I like pretending I’m on a tropical island somewhere in the South Pacific (and they have a Dole Whip machine!). New merchandise featuring a few favorite Disney Resort hotels is arriving this…

One question I get a lot is “Should I rent a car when I visit Walt Disney World?” If you’re not staying on property, the answer is pretty simple:  Yes. There are no resorts within convenient walking distance of Walt Disney World, even the Downtown Disney resorts, and most resort shuttles are so inconvenient they’ll wreak havoc on your schedule. If you’re staying on property however, the answer is a little bit trickier. First, no one staying on Disney property needs to rent a car since Magical Express, Disney’s free shuttle service that runs between…

Some of the most exciting developments in the theme park industry today are happening outside the United States, and few people have witnessed more of what's happening at theme parks around the world than "The Theme Park Guy," Stefan Zwanzger. Traveling to a park I never experienced, Opryland USA located in Nashville, Tennessee. Based upon the theme of American Music, the park featured thrill rides, themed areas and lots of shows. The first images show a musical extravaganza on the stage themed to a showboat called the Opry Belle. The show looks like it was quite entertaining. One of the main attractions was the Wabash Cannonball. A steel double corkscrew roller coaster manufactured by Arrow Dynamics.
  • Three Disneyland Slides From 1965

    20 May 2013 | 6:00 am
These three slides were found in a collection purchased at a Swap Meet. These were the only three Disneyland slides. However, there was a nice grouping of New York World's Fair slides. First image is a nice view of the Rivers of America with the Mark Twain circling Tom Sawyer's Island. Quite a nice shot with lots of activity. Next up the Mekong Maiden successfully returns to the dock. It looks like all the passengers are still on board. The last image is of the underwater kingdom as seen from the Submarine Voyage. I like the fish in the middle of the image.

  • New York World's Fair State of Mind

    16 May 2013 | 5:00 am
Three new views of the New York World's Fair in 1965. One of the neat things about this set of slides is that they were developed by Sears and have a nice mount. First up is a view of the Avenue of Flags with the Unisphere in the background. The crowd is taking some great pictures. Next up is a shot of a rest area with the Coca Cola Pavilion in the background. I like the bubble structures that were the snack bars. One of my favorite attractions was the US Rubber Royal Tires Ferris Wheel. I wish that the ride was still operational.

A new trailer for "Man of Steel" is out...Warner Bros. has delivered an action packed trailer filled with the kind of action we'd expect from a man that can fly, has super human strength and can shoot lasers out of his eyes.  Take a look and buy that ticket right now.  It really does present a much better looking film than what Bryan Singer gave us.  Really excited to see this.  Hopefully, they'll tease the much bigger DC Cinematic Universe in this.A reference to Brainiac conquering worlds during the final scenes of this would be the icing on the cake...

So the Mouse released the final trailer for their new summer film...The fourth trailer for Walt Disney Pictures "The Lone Ranger" has come out.  More action, more comedy, more "splosions" and a really wild, Wild West.  The folks in Burbank are betting 200+ million on a genre that has been hit or miss over the past few decades.Gone are the days when Hollywood studios would crank out Westerns on a weekly basis, because it was printing money.  People would go to see them no matter if they were good, or bad, or the cowboy was singing.  It was a distinctly American genre that…

Yes, I know we've had Star Wars casting rumors since last yesterday...But has anyone thought to try and think of who Jonathan Rhys Meyers would be playing?  The most logical choice would be the offspring of Han and Leia.  So what we might have here is the son of the roguish space pirate.   Could this really be Chewie's godson? It strange because I remember when "Mission: Impossible 3" came out reading an interview with Meyers where they asked him if there was any type of role he'd not like to play.  And he said science fiction, and then used a pejorative word…

    6 May 2013 | 12:01 am
Welcome back to my blog, its been a little quiet lately, "all work and no play", bla, bla, bla.Today we've neat old book from 1957, "This is California".  Karl Obert is the photographer and there are some fine (black and white only) photographs in this book. Where was this taken from?Fairytale Castle... Are those the infamous "Midget Horses"?Looks like a good size audience for the Flight Circle. Some love for Knott's Berry Farm. This must be the "Pike" with that freakish Hi Ride crane thing from hell.Wow...So that's what MacArthur Park was intended to be like. This spot has…

  • The Old Castle's Secret

    19 May 2013 | 6:39 am
Get out the tomato soup and make a grilled cheese sandwich - it's comic book time! The folks over at Fantagraphics Books have published another volume of Carl Barks comics. This time up we have "Donald Duck 'The Old Castle's Secret'" (hardback; 226 pages). These books are beautifully published and offered at a modest price. My only complaint is that I wished  they published the new volumes faster.
  • Unseen Crump Vault

    17 Feb 2013 | 7:01 pm
Boy, am I behind in my book blogging!I've purchased three new books in the last month."Seen, Unseen Disneyland: What You See at Disneyland But Never Really See" (Paperback; 193 pgs). This isn't a behind-the-scenes book nor is it a book about Disneyland secrets. Russell Flores, the author,  takes a very close look at all that attention to detail the Imagineers throw into everything they create. The book is jam-packed with photos to illustrate every concept. "Unseen" is very well researched and Flores does not fall into any of the urban legend traps. My only nitpick, it that the photo…

I received Jim Korkis' new book "Who's Afraid of the Song of the South and Other Forbidden Disney Stories (Paperback; 276 pgs) as a Christmas present.Ask anyone who collects Disney films and they'll ask you the same question, "When will Song of the South be released on DVD"? Heck, this question constantly comes up at the annual Disney stock holders meeting.Jim Korkis doesn't offer any opinions in his well-researched book. He just lays out all the facts and figures around the creation of this film. He leaves this decision making up to the individual reader as to whether or not the topic is…

  • Twain and River, 1959

    22 May 2013 | 12:01 am
Here's a bright sunny photo of the Mark Twain, decorated with patriotic bunting - either for fourth of July, or maybe as part of the opening of the new attractions in Tomorrowland (you know which ones I mean). My favorite detail is the pair of cast members in the foreground, with their groovy straw hats. Tom and Huck! And I like this picture of a busy Frontierland. Do I see three canoes (one is partly hidden by another, and a third is waaay in the distance)? There also appears to be another raft to Tom Sawyer Island just to the left of the mill - I have never confirmed that there was more than…
  • Three From the 70s

    21 May 2013 | 12:01 am
I recently found a small lot of stereo slides that I am guessing are from around 1970 or '71. Not all of them are gems, but hey, I can't be too choosy. This first one is pretty neat, who doesn't love a view of the original "New Tomorrowland", looking fresh and crunchy. The Peoplemover trains never looked better than when they were painted aqua,  royal blue, yellow, and (not seen here) tomato red. Adventure Thru Inner Space, man, did I love that attraction. This one's OK, mostly showing the Skyway, Matterhorn, and the teeming masses (waiting to ride the Subs, perhaps). That kid mighty glad…

    20 May 2013 | 12:01 am
Well whaddaya know... GDB celebrated its 7-year anniversary about a week ago, and now another milestone has been reached; today marks the 2,500th post. BUT... I'm not going to make this an excuse for another "hooray for me" fest! I have an unusual series of photos for you, featuring some sort of work being done on the Monorail track. The slides are date-stamped "November 1961", and the Monorail had been extended to the Disneyland Hotel that year, so it is safe to presume that this work had something to do with the new track. As you can see, workmen are up on the beamway, operating a…

Here are three snoozetastic Leftuggies™ (known to most people as leftovers) - previously unposted scans that are sure to put you to sleep immediately.By 1963, animator/Imagineer Marc Davis had put his stamp on the Jungle Cruise, introducing small tableaus with gentle humor. This example is a weird one! "So, we'll have the mother elephant with her rear end facing the folks in the boat. Flanking her will be two baby elephants." "And....?". "That's it, my homey. It is existential or Kafkaesque or something". "Oh. Ha ha?". I have noticed that a lot of the scenes involving elephants,…
  • Train Stuff

    18 May 2013 | 12:01 am
Today's "Anything Goes" entry celebrates trains. Everybody loves trains, even communists. This first photo shows a beautiful miniature locomotive that was once located at Crandon Park, Florida (famous for its miles of sandy white beaches). From what little I could glean online, this 2 foot gauge train debuted around 1949, and was powered by gasoline rather than live steam. Accounts vary, but it seems to have operated until the mid-1970's, when it was replaced with a completely different train - but as of now none are still there. This next picture is from July 1971, and it features the…

  • Bob Clampett, 100 and counting

    13 May 2013 | 12:29 pm
I was just visiting one of the most important animation blogs on the 'net-Michael Barrier's, to catch up, and saw he'd done a lovely post marking the 100th birthday of Bob Clampett, on May 8th. Good grief, I missed it. Of course, every day is a good day to remember Clampett-that wonderful, nutty, brilliant and lovable cartoon genius.  Following is my Bob Clampett birthday post from 2006:I volunteered to work during the ASIFA annual cel sale in 1981; Bob Clampett happened to be there signing these preprinted drawings; his wife Sody was with him. I introduced myself, finally,…

  • Where are the 2014 Packages?

    Christina Wood
    15 May 2013 | 12:06 pm
I've been getting a lot of questions about 2014 packages, so I thought I would address it in a quick post. First, for those of you who are new to Disney, packages include a room and at least tickets; you can also add dining, but it's not required for a package.  Historically, we've been seeing packages come out in early June, usually three or four days after the ticket price increase is announced.  I would expect early June again this year just because Disney wants everyone using their "My Disney Experience" and linking their dining reservations to their rooms. To do that,…

Lightening and Sally welcome guests. When someone asks me about Art of Animation, I always say the same thing: It's the smartest thing Disney has ever done when it comes to resorts.  Three well-themed pools, suites that sleep six, and a fantastic food court make this a favorite with just about everyone who has the pleasure of staying there.  Let's talk about what Art of Animation has to offer.Room Types:Art of Animation falls into the "value" category of Disney resorts, but in name only. Get those eyeballs ready… today’s installment of Aulani to Walt Disney World is the first part of an exhaustive photo tour of Aulani! We started the day with an invisible sunrise and breakfast at the resort’s other sit-down restaurant, Makahiki. Then we toured the model Disney Vacation Club villa like the one I was originally going to book for our trip. If you’re curious what a…

The work-around has been to order cakes from the Yacht & Beach Club’s pastry team,…

Of course! At Annette's there are U.S. classics such as the Rock n' Roll Burger and the All-American Hot Dog, and I don't know what entree I'd get but I'd certainly…

At its Grand Central Creative Campus in Glendale, Disney has authorization through 2032 to build up to 3.2 million additional square feet in a 125-acre, light industrial compound. The campus already houses Disney Interactive and Walt…

The highest new entry in the U.K. singles chart this week was Heart Attack by Hollywood Records artist Demi Lovato, It came in at number three. Yea! FYI: There has been a rule change in the Oscar race for best animated feature, allowing for the presentation of a third statuette in the case of shared director credits. The category now designates that one Oscar goes to a recipient with a producer credit, while a second goes to the film’s director and/or key creative individual. A third statuette will be allowed if the film credits two directors. Previously in the category, either…

  • Rumored Club 33 Expansion Could Include Jazz Club Concept

    disneydose@gmail.com (DisneyApprentice)
    21 May 2013 | 9:16 pm
Club 33 is a private club in New Orleans Square in Disneyland that is NOT open to the public. I can’t get anyone reservations as much as I would love to. Walt Disney once said, “Disneyland will never be finished.” This continues to hold true today. During my recent first trip to the one and only Club 33, I heard rumors from members floating through the air that a possible expansion of the Club would be taking place over the next six months and would open by the beginning of 2014. Club 33 Expansion Details Included in this rumored expansion is the addition of a new area of…
  • 2013 Disneyland 58th Birthday Events July 17

    disneydose@gmail.com (DisneyApprentice)
    15 May 2013 | 8:40 pm
Recently I received this question from Josie, one of our readers: I’ll be in Disneyland on my birthday this year (July 17th. Disneyland opened July 17th, 1955) and I was wondering if Disneyland ever does anything special for its anniversary or if they will be this year? To summarize what she asked for anyone who doesn’t read italics (I know I don’t), Josie wanted to know what the birthday celebration for Disneyland’s 58th year in existence will be like. Well Josie, while no official announcement has been made for this year, I can bet that Disney will be putting on…
  • Marvel’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Comes to ABC

    13 May 2013 | 2:01 pm
During my years of movie going I have always walked out of the theater with thoughts about what I had just seen swirling through my head. Recently, I walked out of our local Century theater after seeing Iron Man 3 with awesome thoughts rolling through my head, but not only did I have Marvel thoughts in my head, I wanted more. Upcoming this year is Thor 2: The Dark World and in the beginning of 2014 is Captain America: The Winter Solider. But, I needed even more great Marvel features, preferably featuring S.H.E.I.L.D., my favorite fictitious spy agency even topping the Men in Black. (For a…

Tonight I was joining in on the weekly #dizchat and we were discussing the old obscure quote from Walt Disney that we had on our Disney Dose Facebook page. After talking awhile, Sean from DisneyDayByDay brought up his favorite quote which I loved so much that I thought I had to share it. “Don’t bring me problems-I make the problems.” -Walt Disney The post Don’t Bring Me the Problems-I Make the Problems-Walt Disney Quotes appeared first on Disney Dose.

  • Star Wars Angry Birds Toys – A Better Combo Than PB&J

    Dan
    14 May 2013 | 9:58 pm
There has been a galactic battle raging in our living room the past few days. Angry Birds have been flying through the air and destroying an AT-AT walker from Star Wars, much to the delight of my son. Yes, Angry Birds Star Wars toys have landed in our home. Like most people, we have spent too many hours playing Angry Birds on our phones. And like all the cool kids, the Star Wars films are some of our favorites (well, at least the original films are). So when we had the chance to play with Angry Birds toys with a Star Wars theme, it was a perfect match. Angry Birds Star Wars AT-AT Attack…
  • Tilapia Grilled in Corn Husks with Roasted Jalapeno-Lime Butter

    Dan
    3 May 2013 | 6:27 pm
With Cinco de Mayo this weekend, I was in the mood for something with a little bit of a kick. The tilapia with roasted jalapeno-lime butter dish is more of a Tex Mex item than something you’d find at a traditional Mexican restaurant. But it is a great tasting entree that your family will really enjoy. I cooked this dish on my propane grill, but you could use a charcoal grill as well. You don’t have to regulate the temperature of your grill very much when cooking this, so it is an easy one that pretty much anyone can make. Cooking the fish in the corn husks sort of steams it and…
  • Coffee and Writing, the Best Part of the Day

    Dan
    29 Apr 2013 | 12:15 am
When do you find time to write? After talking with a few other dad bloggers, it seems most of us do our best work late in the evening. Our days are filled with work and early evenings are spent with the family. But after everyone goes to bed, the house quiets down and it seems many of us find time to indulge in our hobby. Over the past month, I have struggled to find energy in the evening. The 50+ hour work weeks have taken their toll and, more often than not, I have been tempted to just fall asleep on the couch. My Keurig and I have become good friends, as a cup of coffee in the evening has…
  • There’s Nothing Like that New House Smell

    Dan
    24 Apr 2013 | 6:56 pm
There is something special about that new car smell. Sure, buying a used car can be grand if you are upgrading from a bucket of bolts. But given the opportunity, almost everyone I know would prefer to buy new and to be the first to put some miles on the new engine. The strange thing is that many people overlook the advantages of buying something new when purchasing a home. The romantic idea of sweat equity lures some into buying an existing home, but I have several friends who have lived with outdated wallpaper or shag carpeting for years simply because they never got around to the upgrades.

Free stuff is great, right? I mean if Disney offered you a FREE Dining Plan, you’d think that was a pretty darn awesome deal.  Right? Well, things are not always what they seem. The short answer is…maybe.  But for families with teens, the answer is usually “no.” Here’s the scoop: Teens are considered adults when…
